History
1979 to Date: The Turner Team (consulting business writers, editors, publishers)

Acted as a professional writing consultant and advisor to private clients such as oil companies, mining companies, private practice professions, and for various promotional organizations regarding develop of print media including personal communications (letters, emails), publications, and web sites.

I am an active principal and owner for various publications which The Turner Team wrote, edited, and published. These publications include but are not limited to newspapers, magazines, books, professional newsletters, and professional publications including the Dallas Medical Guide, Dallas Law, Dallas Oil & Gas Reporter, Turtle Creek Times, HMS Monitor, and The Physicians' Journal (either published as supplements to the Dallas Morning News or distributed independently) Served as business consultant for marketing, advertising, and public relations programs to select clients.

I have a broad based publishing related background including typography, advertising, graphic design, and related print skills.

Concurrently, along with my writing and publishing interests, I own an internet marketing company (http:www.hmscrown.com) and have various other business interests.

1975-1979:  Executive Vice President World Operations for a holding company consisting of Texas Canoe Trails (TCT), Worldwide River Tours, TCT Expeditions, Tejas Canoe Manufacturing, Houston Canoe Sales, etc.) Home office Houston, Texas.

Began as wild river expedition guide and became EVP in nine months. Responsible for advertising, marketing, promotional materials, cash flow, budgets, marketing, scheduling, manufacturing, safety, and related activities from Canada to South America. Recruited and trained a national sales force. Resigned to work on development The Turner Team.

1969-1975: President and Chairman of the Board and Principal Stockholder, Rio Caliente S.A., Guadalajara, Mexico, a health resort and spa on the banks of a hot river in Mexico. 

Developed and directed all activities relative to advertising and marketing, organic farming, hotel (max. cap. 100 guests), health spa including naturopathic yogic and related treatments marketed to mature, successful clients. Rebuilt decaying hacienda into popular resort with average guest staying 4.5 weeks. Developed an international sales force. The property is now under the auspices and direction of new owners.

1967-1969: International Purchasing Director; additional Duties as Project Engineer. WHITAKER CABLE, INC., Kansas City, Missouri. 

Doubled production of automotive ignition after market manufacturing and reduced workforce by one half. Resigned to oversee and further develop personal investments in Mexico.

1965-1967: Business Manager with additional duties as Director of Management Engineering. CESSNA AIRCRAFT/Military Twin Aircraft Division, Wichita, Kansas.

Responsible for efficiency of work force, space, material flows, and release of manufacturing schedules and materials. Responsible for 300 employees on three shifts in four manufacturing facilities and nine warehouses distributed over ten linear miles. Reduced parts shortages from 1030 per day to 25 or less through innovative purchasing/inventory system. Doubled available space in existing warehouses. Corporate liaison for Arthur Young and Co. (formerly one of the Big 8 CPAs). Resigned to join Whitaker Cable.

1961-1965: Commercial Manager, Region Staff Assistant. Property Manager (sales and trades of phone companies) AT&T & SOUTHWESTERN BELL TELEPHONE, CO., Fort Worth, Texas. 

Responsible for sales, collections, banking, public relations, employee recruiting, development, and outplacement in N.E. Texas. Achieved sales in the business and residence community considered to be a first. Pioneered 800 Number marketing in North Texas. Recruited by Arthur Young and Co. (CPAs/Consultants) to join Cessna Aircraft. 

1957-1960:  Military: Information Control Officer (RC Systems Data Management U.S. Air Force- Europe, Wiesbaden, Germany. 

Responsible for collection of sensitive inter-service data collection (regarding manpower, missiles, aircraft, ships, ammunitions, fuel, etc.). Prepared and presented war room briefings for field and staff commanders. Inter-service coordinator for civilian evacuation and escape in the Frankfurt/Wiesbaden area. Advised and assisted with budget formulation. 
 

Civic Activities

  • I have been active in Toastmasters, Kiwanis, Lions Club, United Fund Loaned Executive - Fund Raising - Transportation Division (Cessna Aircraft), Junior Achievement Loaned Executive -Company Manager (Whitaker Cable), Chairman Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee, Chairman Chamber of Commerce State Designee Historical Marker Development Committee. I frequently donate my writing and editorial services to community organizations. While in Mexico I served the La Primavera Landowners Association as Director of Tourism Development, and in 1973 I served as an Assessor de Ambiente (Environmental Advisor/Mexican Federal Government).
