Genie Urquhart
(photo taken at age 94)

Genie (Sumner) Urquhart, who passed away on June 22, 2009 at the age of 97, was an accomplished  business executive all her life,

A member of the HMS Crown, Inc. Board of Directors and active investor in various alternative health businesses throughout the country, Genie's career spanned from proprietor of a dairy to Christmas Tree Farms in Missouri to health spas in Old Mexico. In the 1930's, she was a patient in a tuberculosis asylum in California and cured herself with an alternative herbal treatment. When diagnosed with terminal cancer fifty years ago, she cured herself with a grape only diet for about a year. She was always an avid gardener and  sincerely and firmly believed that "God put us on this earth and gave us everything we need to prevent and cure disease."

"I  would, of course, like to elaborate on Genie's grape diet," said her grandson Burl Gentry. "I doubt that there are very many people that could condition themselves to eat nothing but grapes for an ENTIRE YEAR! Grandma did that ( I watched, as she prepaired for me and everyone else, great meals)! When we would sit down to dinner, Grandpa would ask her "can I peel you a grape, mommy?" I don't want to sound like a TV commercial but, that wasn't a month, two months, six months, but, an entire YEAR of nothing ,but grapes!!! If YOU could do that, I wouldn't want to meet you in a dark alley!"

We proudly honor the memory of Genie Sumner Urquhart of Colorado who passed away on June 22, 2009 at age 97. Genie was a very beautiful and active lady all of her life and was living proof of the anti aging philosophy of HMS Crown, where she played an extensive role in the company's development.

Genie (second from left) is presented with an oil painting of her garden at her 95th birthday party in Pea Green, Colorado. From left to right are Joann Brew, Genie, Susan Turner, Twilah Brew and on the far right is Katie Sumner, Genie's lifelong friend. also age 95.

"Although my husband Terry had known Genie for many yeas, my first encounter with Genie Urquhart was receiving a package from her," says HMS Crown president Susan Turner.  "When I opened it, it was filled with raw garlic from her garden in Oklahoma. Because I knew that Genie, then in her late 80's, was healthy, youthful, spry and constantly traveling the country from Florida to Colorado to Oklahoma, I surmised that she had sent me her secret -- garlic. From that day forward, my Terry and I begin researching garlic and discovered its incredible anti aging benefits."

Genie was the adopted mother of Susan and Terry Turner, principals of HMS Crown, Inc.  "But we were not the first to claim Genie," says Susan. "Screen star Angelica Bridges of TV's Bay Watch Fame," beat us to the punch. When Angelica was a young girl in Missouri, she asked Genie to be her grandmother, a relationship that survived the test of time."

Terry Turner, HMS Crown CEO, credits Genie and her late husband U S Naval Commander Oscar Urquhart with instilling in him the importance of alternative and natural health concepts. While working with the Urquharts at their Christmas Tree Lane plantation near Harrisonville, Missouri, Terry said he was daily exposed to their habit of taking vitamin and mineral supplements, herbal teas, and meals enriched with fresh garlic, apricot and almond seeds, bean sprouts, and similar food products that were hardly part of mainstream thinking in the early sixties.

"I can have no doubt that Genie's  regime contributed greatly to her vitality and the youthful appearance of her skin even though she spent long days in the fields nurturing and grooming their thousands of Christmas trees," he said.

As Genie approached her 98th birthday, she still had very attractive skin, an exceedingly sharp mind, and having survived serious heart attacks was responding with her own aggressive program of exercise, some allopathic medicines, and her own unusual dietary regime of natural foods. Until the end, she continued to have an interest in floral design, in which she was highly trained and for which she received numerous awards for excellence in design (particularly in connection with the Kansas City and St. Louis Flower Shows). Genie was certainly a continuing inspiration to all who know her and will be greatly missed.

Genie, who survived several medical death sentences (and most of her doctors)  for tuberculosis, cancer, and congestive heart failure,  said that at 97, she still had her own healthy hair, "mostly home-grown teeth, and real fingernails!" She said she had regularly taken  HMS Crown's vitamin supplements - a multi-vitamin mineral complex, extra magnesium, and other supplements of her choice for years.

Always describing her diet as a "see food" diet (eats what she sees), Genie had no aches or pains, and until recently took no prescribed medication, and had eyes and hears without aids. Passing way peacefully with a smile on her face, Genie was proof that anti-aging practices do indeed work. Thanks Genie, we at HMS Crown honor your life contributions and you will live in the memory of all of us.
