Fumiko Duncan
HMS Crown takes pride in welcoming Fumiko Duncan of Henderson, Nevada into the HMS Crown Gallery of Beautiful People. Fumiko was born in Yokosuka, Japan on 26 Jan 1947. She attended a trade school in leiu of High School and completed a two year course in sewing for being a seamstress. After working a relative short time, primarily as a dress maker, she became employed on the U.S. Naval Base in Yokosuka as a waitress. There she met Dan Duncan, her husband of 41 plus years and was married on 9 Sep 1966. She became a faithful navy wife and after ten years of marriage became a mother of two daughters. Her hobbies have been craft work and sewing up until moving to Henderson in 1997, where she began teaching Japanese Traditional Dance on an almost daily basis. She received certification as an instructor of Japnanese Traditional Dance in 2005 and currently has five students and dances worldwide. Fumiko has danced in San Francisco, San Rafael, Los Angeles, San Diego and both Honolulu and Hilo Hawaii. She also dances in Niigata, Japan where the head instructor lives. She danced in Kashiwazaki, Niigata, Japan for an earthquake charity dance on 23 November, 2007. Fumiko enjoys travelling with her husband Dan Duncan, who retired in 1996. The couple has toured China, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, shortly after her dance in Niigata and visiting their daughter and family in Misawa, Japan and her family in Yokosuka. Fumiko was actively involved in Girl Scouting in Japan for 12 years acting as the American-Japanese Coordinator for an exhchange program the Yokosuka Naval Base had with a sister scout group in Kiryu, Japan. |
