Israel and his wife Sharon are world travelers and have friends worldwide. Among them was Carmine Coppola, who was the First Flutist of the old NBC Symphony under Toscanini; Carmione wrote the music for 'The Godfather', the blockbuster movie directed by his son Francis Ford Coppola.
Dr. Borouchoff was recently honored with a very nice bottle of Claret wine selected especially for him by a cardiologist friend. It was from the California vineyard belonging to Francis Ford Coppola.
"I want everyone to know that I am following my cardiologist's orders: I have a glass of red wine with every dinner. It is supposed to be good for the heart. At least, its good for the soul
HMS Crown welcomes Israel Borouchoffl of Colorado Springs, Colorado into the HMS Crown Gallery of Beautiful People.
Israel Borouchoff has dedicated a large part of his life to his great love of photography, and after his retirement as Professor of Music from Michigan State University, he immersed himself fully into his second career and first love: photography.
Juilliard trained as Classical Flutist who has performed with some of the finest orchestras in the United States and abroad such as the St. Louis Symphony, The Chamber Symphony of Philadelphia, The Little Orchestra of New York, and The Israel Philharmonic, he was a photographer from a very early age, and the camera was indeed his first instrument before he was taught to play the flute. While performing and recording as Principal Flutist with some of the greatest conductors and composers of our time such as Leopold Stokowski, Aaron Copland, Igor Stravinsky, Georg Solti, Jean Martinon, Pierre Monteux, Zubin Mehta, Joseph Kripps, Charles Munch, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Paul Kletzki, Herman Scherchen, Walter Hendel, Laszlo Somogyi, Igor Markevich, Pablo Casals, Leonard Bernstein, and many others, he says a camera was frequently within reach next to his music stand during rehearsals, to capture those decisive moments as opportunity arose.
As orchestral solo flutist, chamber music performer and soloist while touring many cities in the USA, Mexico, Puerto Rico, China, Europe, and Israel, he found his cameras and flutes shared equally in importance: his flute creating sounds on the concert stage, and his camera recording sights as perceived through his mind’s eye.
His photographs have won numerous awards; they have been displayed at several galleries and photo shows in Colorado, the HMS - Fields Gallery in Taos, New Mexico and now in the Frameworks Gallery in Colorado Springs. His works have also appeared in prestigious publications such as Leica Fotografie, The Nikon International Photo Contest Annual, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The St. Louis Globe Democrat, The Milwaukee Journal, and The Detroit Free Press.
