Kevin McDermott Gallery Taos Artist - internationally acclaimed Taos, Pueblo, and Southwest Art Originals, by Kevin McDermott |
|||||||||||||||||
Maria Martinez was a renown potter from the San Ildefonso Pueblo, who in the last century, was responsible more than any other artist for generating world interest in native American pottery. Today her Original potterys sells from $5,000 to $80,000 each. The next best thing to owning a Maria Martinez Original is owning an Original painting by Kevin McDermott. Taos Artist Kevin McDermott has made an intense study of the late Maria Martinez, her husband Julian and the San Ildefonso Pueblo and its culture and tradition. Maria Martinez pottery is painted to scale and in exact detail -- an accurate hitorical reproduction of their early civilization. A number of the Originals are currently exhibited at the the Millicent Rodgers Museum in Taos, New Mexico. McDermott first mastered realism through his background in engineering, drafting, and technical drawing. This formal education combined with his innate creativity and a passion for color without sacrificing authenticity set the stage for his unique hitorical depiction of ancient cultures. His masterful fluidity of light and movement creates a magnificent illusion of flotaing in space, but the art of Kevin McDermott is is actually photographic realism when viewed in close proximity or from several feet. McDermott's Originals are currently very affordable and represent an exceptional investment. According to HMS Galleries, his work will soon be commanding much higher prices.
