Taos Fire -- July 4, 2003

Kevin McDermott Photos

Kevin McDermott presents candid shots of a raging forest fire that began July 4th when lightening struck in the Encebado Canyon very near the Taos Pueblo. Containing structures that have been continuously inhabited by Native Americans for 1,000  to 3,000 years, the Taos Pueblo is considered a world treasure and was initially in great danger.

Taos artist Kevin McDermott is known for his paintings of ancient pueblo pottery and kachinas. He has spent years studying the Pueblo history and civilization; and his passion for their art reflects the soul of the Pueblo people
