Mary Ann Wentworth Seven Sisters Art Gallery |
|||||
Mary Ann Wentworth Mary Ann Wentworth grew up with nine other brothers and sisters in Mount Tabor, New Jersey. Family is very important to her and is even reflected in the name of her gallery, aptly called the Seven Sisters Art Gallery. As a child she became interested in art when one of her teachers showed her fellow students her first drawing which was a picture of a chick hatching which Mary Ann had drawn on a school book cover. She said, “I knew right then that I wanted to be an artist. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in fine arts from Flagler College in Florida; her Master's in fine arts from Montclair State a decade later. Wentworth has had numerous exhibits across the United States and her paintings hang in many locales. She is a popular portrait painter, usually working in watercolor, and has received a considerable amount of recognition including being a lifetime fellow of the Wurlitzer Foundation. in Taos, New Mexico. Her works have often been on display at the HMS Crown / Fields Gallery in Taos, NM.. Artist Statement: My ability to create artwork is both exhilarating and intimidating. I enjoy capturing moments in time; a vase of wildflowers spilled, fruit about to be eaten, the playful character of a child on a bench. When I travel I record the shapes and textures that are appealing to me. These works allow the viewer to be transported to another place and time. The visual literacy is required with whichever medium I am working in, and whatever style; realism or abstract expressionism. I am certain composition is instinctive. The effect of light and dark on colors and shapes is the universal language I use to function in my world. -- Mary Ann Wentworth To view original paintings by Mary Ann Wentworth, Click Here!
