![]() King's Holiday Fun Recipes --- stressing fun
The King concludes that the author and composer cannot be accurately identified; however it is believed to date back to Olde England in the sixteenth century. Either way we salute the author and appreciate the work and if we ever see proof of the porbable author, we will be glad to provide credit to that creative person. The tradition of carolers being given Christmas treats for singing to the more prosperous residents of their village or town is reflected in the song - We Wish You a Merry Christmas! Over the years the fashion for figgy puddings mentioned in We Wish You a Merry Christmas has faded and, in some cases was, in many cases, replaced by Piggy Pudding. But to the best of our information, the basic recipe consisted of figs together with butter, sugar, eggs ,milk, rum, apple, lemon and orange peel, nuts, cinnamon, cloves and ginger! The American version of Figgy Pudding is similar to the one described above except that it is and was made with a good deal of sausage as well. There are various versions of the lyrics as well. One common version is shown below. For the record, it is FIGGY some where and else where it is PIGGY but, on the whole Figgy seems to win out!-- Piggy or Figgy, sing it either way for great fun. This section has three piggy pudding recipes in the navigation bar on the right side of this page. Enjoy the lyrics of WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS. One version of many versions: We wish you a Merry Christmas;
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding;
We wish you a Merry Christmas;
Another version: We want some figgy pudding
We won't go until we get some
