Happy St. Patrick's Day
Saint Patrick's Story Saint Patrick was born in Roman ruled Britain where his father and grandfather had been Christian churchmen before him. When he was in his mid teens he was captured in Roman Britain and taken in slavery to Ireland. He is thought to have been in slavery for about six years before making his escape and returning to his family. He entered the church, as his forebears had done, and went on in quick succession to become a deacon and then a bishop. The mists of time obscure much of the story but he is said to have returned to Ireland to minster to the people, but little is known of his work there or of any churches with which he might have been associated. There is little or no certainty about the date of his birth or death but one thing is clear today: He was clearly known to be the Patron Saint of Ireland by the eighth century. He appears to have active in Ireland around the later part of the fifth century. For those interested in more historic research, please search on Annals of Ulster and F. F. O’Rahilly’s “Two Patricks” among many other sources. See Free, Fun, Easy, Delicious Recipes from
