Hydro Bar ![]() ![]() Weatherford was founded in 1893 and named for William Weatherford, US Territorial Marshal. Like Hydro, Weatherford is a farming community. The main street is old Route 66 and many of the town's interesting buildings date back to the early part of the twentieth century. Weatherford is the birthplace of astronaut Thomas Stafford, Commander of the 1975 Apollo-Soyuz mission. Hydro, Oklahoma is the home of the original Lucille's. Hydro was founded in 1901 and was named for the excellent well water common to the area. The Hydro area economy was once boosted by the traffic flowing back and forth along 66 but today it is fairly dependent on agriculture. This classic old gas station is only one of two out-thrust porch with live in accommodations over the station left on Oklahoma's Route 66 today. It is also the childhood home of Lucille Hamons --- the Mother of the Mother Road. Lucille's was founded right on Route 66 in 1941. Countless thousands passed right by this old station and many took some comfort there. Route 66 winds through the Oklahoma countryside still clinging to old memories of grander times; memories of a time when an old steel truss bridge, like this one on the edge of Hydro helped move the traffic and the times forward. HYDRO BAR. The Hydro Bar is a famous Highway 66 destination and not far off the interstate. The Hydro Bar is world famous for beer (only) and boiled eggs (only) nothing else is served in the establishment. "...and they come into 66 from the tributary side roads, from the wagon tracks and the rutted country roads, 66 is the mother road, the road of flight ..." - John Steinbeck in The Grapes of Wrath
